Iron are usually the clubs that get us to the green. So we expect more out of them. Think about it. How often do you hit greens with a 3-wood? Our "landing zone" for a wood is usually much larger than where we want those irons to hit.

I struggle with irons too, but I will admit my Callway Diablo Edge irons have helped me tremendously!

Sounds like great fun. I just drove my first green this weekend—with a 3-wood! It was very dry, but I'll take it. I love what the guys said. That's the way golf should be.

I can see that the other amenities would be desirable to keep the kids occupied. The non-golfing spouses at my club have been trying to ram a pool down the membership's "throats" for a long time now for that same reason - so they have a reason to come to the course. We offer golf and tennis lesson programs and a little summer program with arts and crafts and an annual kids' play. A pool just not a priority at my little club because there is a non-connected, but many people belong, Hammersley Beach lake club that was also started by Lowell Thomas nearby.

It looks like a beautiful course. For me the club experience does need to include a top-notch golf course.

But I must admit to needing the other amenities for my kids. The pool and other kid activities are important to us because they can keep the kids occupied while I golf. ;o) As for running into The Donald—not a priority for me.

Raising dues in the winter is a tough one to swallow. I always hold my breath when I open our Jan. bill to see what is in store for the year ahead.

If you get a chance to play, be sure to take lots of photos.

Good point Sjn - there are other fabulous golfers on the tour that I truly enjoy watching. Who could forget the British Open with Tom Watson battling for the win? Best golf of the entire year in my opinion and no Tiger Woods in sight. Honestly my favorite on the tour is Phil Mickelson. Then there's John Daly, Paddy Harrington, and oh so many others that delight me with their game.

It's a contradiction, for the "greatest golfer", a game of honesty, to be so immoral and dishonest in "the game of life". He's clearly broken all the rules of marraige.
I'm glad he's taking a break. It gives us, the fans, time to focus on all the other great golfers on the PGA Tour.

You're right. All we know is "Tiger Woods, Inc." I'm kind of glad that's all I know right now because I feel terribly for those who really know "Tiger," and rely on him as a father and husband.

The world will definitely forgive him, but his family is what really matters.

Thanks, Heather! Sorry to hear you didn't make it, but you're in "pole position" as they say, for next year! QHCC can be a tough course. Tiny greens and no flat lies, but it's fun. Let me know if you get to NY and I'll take you out! You'll love the flag in the back yard. Makes for great afternoon competitions or just fun chipping contests with yourself.

It looks like you are playing a damn hard course! And if you are playing with the mud-covered balls I've been playing with, it's seriously tough.

Handicaps are like men--they come & go. It's hard sometimes to enter higher scores than we are used to. But trying to play to a "vanity" handicap can be equally as upsetting.

I didn't make my 9.9. I was one tenth off. Can you believe that? I ended our season as a 10.0. But I was almost a 15 at one point during the summer.

Hang in there. You are clearly a great golfer who knows how to have fun on the course.

BTW I'm SO adding flag to my back yard. Excellent idea!

The fact that Tom Watson has such a rich history with the Open Championship was what I found so remarkable...and awesome. His five wins, including that memorable Turnberry duel with Nicholson... with the exception of Tiger Woods, it's difficult to imagine any of today's young players even coming close to that.

I do feel that many in the golf press made too much of Mr. Watson's age. 60 today is not what 60 was 20 years ago. You mention the continued ability to hit long and it's absolutely true if one keeps working hard on their game. OK, many don't, but I'm guessing more will in the future and that we may very possibly be seeing Vijay Singh and numerous others contending well into their 50s...and beyond. And the idea (I read it in a number of places) that at 60 "one no longer has the mental toughness" to compete at the highest level. Well, don't even get me started on that.

Anyway, it was indeed a memorable Open Championship, viewership was up and ultimately I think it was great for golf.

To pull in the viewership the LPGA needs more play...

To pull in the viewership the LPGA needs more players with star power like Annika, who can actually play, not those such as Michelle Wie who though nice eye candy has been a disappointment.

The PGA would like to claim the surge in viewship on all their marketing efforts, but to be honest this popularity in Golf both as a fan and a participant (espcially with younger people) has a name and that name is Tiger.
